Todber Manor Coarse Fishery
Report What are the odds !
i was fishing for nearly 20 hours out of my 24hour session and not a single fish on either of my two rods. i heavily baited my swim with mainline cell but in the last few hours i decided to put a third rod out, an OLD sea fishing rod with small line on. i cast it into the middle of the lake and no where near my baited swim. same hook bait ( a pineapple pop up wafters – multi-coloured) as the two previous rods which i couldn’t catch on and i cast out. within 5 minutes my bite alarm is screaming and i have a fish on the rod with i had not baited at all and i was least confident about playing a fish on. i got it in and it was a 18lb mirror, blowing my previous pb of 10lb common out of the water, and this made me think that luck does play a big part in fishing and all the preparation in the world cant gaurentee a fish!

I think you was going wrong because you said you heavily baited! alot of people think if you heavily bait your more likely to catch but it actually works the opposite way, you wana bait little but often using no more then 1kg of bait a day or even less, if baiting up with boilies dont throw them all in same place scatter the marounf your hook bait of a few metres this will get the carp moving more and searching for them, and before you fish look where you will cast towards you say you caught that fish in the middle of the lake this is because alot of big fish will stay in the middle in deeper waters, hope some o this helps and well done mate that is a cracking achievement for someone your age.Jimmy on 06.06.11 at 19:44
Good point about luck playing a part. To be honest, fishing is about relaxing to me so I'm not too fussed about hauling in one after the other. I'm happy to just throw a bit of bait out there and see what happens :)Notify me of new comments
