Mangerton Valley Lake

Mangerton Lake is one and a half acres in size with varying depths up to 20 feet. In contains 2 submerged islands, and some reeds in the margins.

The lake holds carp, roach, rudd, tench and eels. The carp are very well stocked and easy to find, they average at 3-4lb but there are plenty of doubles and the lake record stands at 28lb. The majority of the carp are commons, but there are a few nice mirror carp as well for some variety. There are plenty of roach and rudd too, and the roach go up to and above 2lb. The tench are rarer, but there are many between the 2 and 3lb mark, with some bigger specimens to be found. Eels also occasionally make an apperance.

You really cannot fail to catch at this lake. It is almost overflowing with fish, and is a great place for beginners but the rarer big carp give the more experienced specimen angler a challenge.

Gravelled pegs are available down one side of the lake, but on the others you can fish on the grass.

To get your ticket: If driving from bridport, drive past the gate to the lake on your right and turn into the next house on your left. The door to the porch will be open, and you can go in and pay in the box there and write out your ticket. Current closing times will be shown in the porch.

Hints & Tips:

Most baits will catch at mangerton, although luncheon meat seems to be one of the better choices for the carp. Surface fishing is a great alternative here, dog biscuits or bread do the job.
